About Tagline Agent
Tagline reads your merged PRs since the last release, generates an AI-reasoned report. What changed, what bump is right, and why. Then runs the full release on your /approve: changelog, git tag, GitHub Release, and a plain-language summary for users.
One auto-opened tracking issue per cycle. No dashboard, no database. BYOK. MIT licensed.
Tagline: GitHub-native release-management agent
Tagline turns your release process into a two-command workflow. No scripts, no dashboards, no manual changelog editing.
How it works
Tagline opens a release-tracking issue at the start of every cycle. When you're ready to ship, comment /release-report on that issue. Tagline reads every merged PR since the last tag, parses conventional commits, calculates the correct semver bump, drafts a CHANGELOG entry, and posts a full release report — all inside GitHub, where your team already works.
Review the report. If it looks right, comment /approve minor (or patch, or major). Tagline creates the release branch, commits the CHANGELOG, and opens a PR against your production branch. When that PR merges, the GitHub Action picks up automatically: tags the commit, creates the GitHub Release, and closes the tracking issue.
Two outputs, two audiences
Every release produces a technical CHANGELOG.md for developers and a Release Note for everyone else. Product owners, customers, stakeholders. The GitHub Release page shows both. The completion comment gives you copy-paste text ready for Slack or your product changelog.
Designed to stay out of your way
• Stateless: No database, no external state. GitHub is the source of truth. • Monorepo-aware: Detects pnpm, Turborepo, Nx, Lerna, and npm/yarn workspaces automatically. • Self-hosting first: Deploy the bot anywhere in minutes. The hosted app at github.com/apps/tagline-sh is a convenience, not a requirement.
