About Hydra Maintainer
Hydra Maintainer is a self-hostable, open-source GitHub App for maintainer automation — PR health scoring, reviewer recommendations, contributor progression tracking, and optional AI-assisted review powered by Claude. No SaaS lock-in, no vendor hosting your repository data. Everything runs on infrastructure you control, with a persistent audit trail and full REST API access to every stored record.
What it does
Hydra Maintainer automates the repetitive, unpaid work every open-source maintainer takes on: onboarding first-time contributors, screening PR quality, recommending reviewers, tracking contributor growth, and managing stale issues.
Onboarding — Detects first-time contributors, posts a welcome checklist, validates account eligibility, and round-robins mentor assignment.
PR quality gates — Checks DCO sign-off, GPG signatures, test presence, linked issues, branch naming, and file count, auto-labelling PRs as quality: pass or fail.
PR health scoring — Every PR scored 0-100 across six configurable, weighted signals.
Reviewer recommendation — Suggests reviewers based on file-history overlap, with a logged reason and confidence score.
AI-assisted review — Optional structured review (summary, verdict, line comments, severity) via the Anthropic SDK. Disabled by default, never required, and configurable per repo.
Contributor progression — Tracks merged PRs, reviews, and months active; computes eligibility for junior-committer, committer, and maintainer roles.
Issue management — Daily stale scans, auto-unassignment, and label-based escalation.
Live dashboard & REST API — Real-time metrics, audit log, and full API access to every stored record.
Why self-hosted
Unlike closed-source SaaS bots, Hydra Maintainer runs entirely on infrastructure you control — your repository data, review history, and contributor metrics stay in your own Postgres or SQLite database. Every bot action is logged with a reason, and the bot stays completely silent in any repo without an explicit .github/hiero-bot.yml config file.
Built and validated against the Hiero (Linux Foundation Decentralized Trust) ecosystem, and designed to generalize to any GitHub-hosted open-source project.
